Ultrasonography
Diagnostic ultrasonography is an ultrasound based medical imaging technique used
for visualizing subcutaneous body structures including muscles, tendons, joints,
vessels and internal organs for possible pathology or other abnormalities. It is
unique in that it does not use ionizing radiation to form its images.

Ultrasound is used commonly for evaluation of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts,
kidneys, pancreas, spleen, as well as superficial organs in the body such as the
thyroid, scrotum, and breast. Obstetric ultrasound is commonly used during pregnancy.
Ultrasound in gynecologic disorders of the pelvis and uterus is also common. Ultrasound
is also commonly used as an aid during medical procedures.
