Interventional Pain Management

Interventional pain management (IPM) is a medical subspecialty which uses minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat pain related disorders. The Ernst Radiology Clinic has several radiologists who are expertly trained in these techniques and routinely perform them on a multitude of patients to assist with their respective pain syndromes.

A sample of the IPM procedures performed include:

Spinal epidural steroid injections
Transforaminal spinal epidural steroid injections
Nerve blocks
Spinal facet joint steroid injections
Balloon kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty for management of spinal fractures

All of our radiologist that perform IPM procedures are expertly trained and have years of experience in these techniques. We evaluate each patient individually and devise a pain management plan uniquely suited to your condition.

Patient Preparation

Depending on the IPM procedure you are having, preparation can vary. Many of our procedures use local anesthesia thus preparation is minimal. Some procedures utilized moderate sedation and require that no food or drink be consumed beyond midnight the night before the procedure. Some procedures may require that a driver be present to safely take you home after your IPM procedure is done. Our staff will contact you the day before your procedure to answer any questions and to review the pre-procedure checklist.
